Club Identity

Our name builds on the German roots of the Lincoln Square and Ravenswood communities, but FORTUNA Ravenswood VfB is really a massive celebration of the whole Northwest Side. VfB in German means ‘Verein für Bewegungsspiele’ or ‘Club for Movement Games’ (Sport Club), and at FORTUNA our mission is to empower kids through the joy of play, delivering dynamic movement and athletic improvement to help every child develop on and off the field. 

Mission FORTUNA:

We chose the name Fortuna after the ancient Roman goddess of luck and fate, but it's actually a nod to a universal concept found in mythologies across the world (Lakshmi, Teotl, the Orisha Oshun, Tyche and the Fates, etc). To us ‘FORTUNA’ is an agreement to provide our players with the tools, confidence, and community support they need to “make their own luck” on and off the field.

We’re not a hyper-intense corporation, and we are launching as a community grassroots feeder club. Our aims are to bridge the gap between recreational and travel play while fostering fun, positive environments where kids can thrive and enjoy starting their competitive journeys in soccer. 

Thanks to our green sports partners we’re able to keep high-quality, eco-friendly sports affordable and accessible for both boys and girls in our community. We are also a low-overhead alternative for families looking to test the waters of competitive club football, and offer certified academy coaching on a flexible manageable scale.
